The festive season is arguably one of the best times of the year, but for HR and payroll, it also comes with lots of planning and risk management. From annual shut downs and working public holidays, to case studies involving drunken Christmas party antics, we’ll guide you on how to safely navigate the festive season without being the fun police!

Learning Outcomes – Learners should be able to:

  • Identify their obligations and communicate with employees in relation to annual shut downs, public holidays, requesting employees to work, leave black out periods and leave balances;
  • Identify HR and worker’s compensation risks in relation to Christmas parties and end of year functions, and implement effective strategies to mitigate the risks;
  • Communicate with employees and leaders about appropriate conduct during the festivities;
  • Describe party and function options suitable for their workforce and business objectives;

Effectively apply these learnings to other scenarios throughout the year such as the Easter long weekend and planned maintenance shut downs.

All Learners must be at least 18 years of age, and fluent in written and spoken English.

Every Learner will receive a Course Workbook prior to session commencement, along with an email full of useful tools and links after the session. Each Short Course page provides more specific information about the complimentary resources provided for each Course.

Bring yourself, a water bottle, and an open mind ready to learn. We’ll provide a workbook to support your participation.

To ensure a productive environment for everyone, we encourage minimizing the use of phones and laptops during the workshop.

For learners attending a Short Course in person, lasting 3 hours or more, a delicious brunch will be provided. If you have any dietary preferences or restrictions please note them in your online booking. Tea/coffee will also be available throughout the workshops.

Any Learners attending a virtual course must have a stable internet connection, Microsoft Teams, and a microphone and camera in good working order on their device.
