In this Foundational Short Course, you will learn how the Fair Work Act 2009, National Employment Standards, Modern Awards, registered agreements and employee entitlements work together, and associated traps and risks for employers. We’ll explore causes of under and overpayments and how to communicate with employees about them. We’ll also dive in to claims for unpaid entitlements, the new national wage theft legislation and prepare a plan to ensure your obligations are covered.
Learning Outcomes – Learners should be able to:
- Describe the employment relations hierarchy (framework) in Australia;
- Identify which Awards/Agreements and entitlements are applicable to their employee group in order to pay employees correctly;
- Describe commonly overlooked entitlements;
- Identify how under and over payments occur and how to reduce the risk;
- Identify the risks associated with underpayments, overpayments and claims for unpaid entitlements, and how to mitigate these;
- Consult effectively with employees about overpayments and underpayments, when necessary;
- Describe the new national wage theft provisions, and how to prepare for these.
Note: As this Short Course provides the foundational concepts that will ensure employer’s meet their compliance obligations in relation to entitlements, we recommend that all Learners who do not hold qualifications in HR or Payroll attend this Short Course.
